Geeky Mom |
I'm a tech savvy, geeky, Canadian mom and I've noticed something. There are no great tech blogs geared to moms or Canadians or Canadian moms. I intend to change that. -- Also, I have a tendency to ramble. This could get interesting! |

A post from my other blog
Cake pops! (Taken with instagram)
Clearly I’m not capable of keeping up a regular blog. I have good intentions… HONEST TO GOODNESS good intentions but they always seem to fall through. So i’m going to try again. I’ve downloaded the tumblr app on my iPhone in an attempt to keep up with the regular blogging.
I’m also considering putting a reminder on my calendar so I remember to post regularly.
Wish me luck!!
My 4-year old daughter has a folder on my iphone full of games and fun apps that are specifically for her. She knows where this folder is located and how to use every single app in the folder better than I do! We have jointly tested a number of apps and games and here are the best ones thus far.

Matching Zoo
Matching Zoo is basically just an advanced version of Memory. The reason my daughter loves it so much is because it make animal noises. I like it because it helps with her memorization skills as well as recognizing different animals not only by sight but by sound as well.
FW Sampler
FW Sampler is a great little game for any child learning to spell. The child has to move the letters into the appropriate place. If they’re unsure of how the word sounds, they can click the picture above the word and it will say the word they are trying to spell. Also, when they click on each letter, it says what that letter is. It’s a fantastic game and the educational value is excellent.
Fairytale Preschool
I think my daughter loves this app simply because there are princesses. But there is some educational value to it. The app has 4 different games. Colours, Matching, Letters and Numbers. Each game practices and develops one of these four skills. My daughter is starting to get a little too advanced for this game so I think we’ll be retiring it soon.
Make Me A Princess
This game has zero educational value but my daughter LOVES it! Who wouldn’t want to play virtual dress-up with a princess? You are able to change the hair colour, skin colour, dress, accessories and background.
Talking Carl
Ok, so to be honest, I downloaded this one for me. I’m not surprised at all that my daughter has taken a liking to this very simple app. If you haven’t played with Talking Carl, I highly suggest that you do. Pretty much, carl repeats whatever you say in a cute high-pitched voice. I usually get him to say something simple and then my daughter starts laughing. Once Carl starts to imitate my daughter’s laugh, it’s all over.
I’m almost tempted to get an iPad just so my daughter has an easier time navigating a larger screen. Is that appropriate justification?
Hey everyone! Well, here I go again with another blog on yet another platform! My old blog is still up and will continue to run as usual but I will be putting all my blogging focus into this one. OK! So, lets get down to the purpose of this page.
In my years of reading and writing and obsessing over everything technical, I have found a gap. I love Mashable, ReadWriteWeb and GeekyGadgets but there is no emphasis on CANADIAN content. Canada has a lot to offer (think RIM, Digital Extremes and Google to name a few) but we lack any kind of concrete representation or press in the Tech world. The other gap I have found is there aren’t any major blogs or sites dedicated to technology for the family. There have been SO MANY technological advancements over the past few years that benefit the family and they haven’t been profiled anywhere that I can find. The plan is that once a week, I’m going to write a post about something techy and awesome. We’ll see how this goes!
